Recent events in Israeli news remind us how living here can be strange and surreal, so much so, that sometimes it feels like the political situation is suffocating and difficult to endure. Life in Tel Aviv is so wild and intense – almost like this raw untamed beauty – shifting between leisure and danger. This felt most of all, when walking down the street and watching people speak.
Hebrew as a language is expressed in loud words, but more prominently in the way people use their hands while communicating. This is why the hand gesture is a beautiful reflection of the unique Israeli temperament, hard to express in words, but greatly felt in the street. It’s the face and the reminder of our bitter-sweet reality.
